Jackson Media Personality Tambra Cherie To Serve as 2021 Summer Reading Ambassador
May 5, 2021
Media personality and author Tambra Cherie is the 2021 Jackson Public Schools Summer Reading Ambassador. |
Jackson Public Schools will kick off the 2021 Summer Reading Program in May with help from the Midday Diva, Tambra Cherie. Cherie has agreed to serve as the 2021 Summer Reading Ambassador and will help us promote the program throughout the community and encourage our scholars to remain engaged and read lots of books. To further encourage our scholars' reading enjoyment, we will provide incentives for them to complete reading challenges beyond the minimum requirement in order to win exciting prizes.
Cherie is best known as one of this community's favorite radio personalities. An all-around media talent and entertainment reporter, she has local and national television credits, including as a host of the No. 1 entertainment television show in Mississippi, "Admission Granted," as a co-host of the Lifetime Network's "Bring It," and as a guest host of "Dish Nation TV." She is now one of five successful women from Jackson featured in the reality television show, "The Belle Collective," airing on the OWN Network. In 2014, Tambra Cherie was named Jackson's Woman of the Year. Since 2018, she has been making radio and television appearances to share the positive messages contained in her first book, "Surrounded By Sin, Grounded By Love: 8 Simple Keys to Becoming a Better You."
The theme of the 2021 Summer Reading Program is "Reading Palooza." The program kicks off Tuesday, May 11 with virtual events for parents hosted by the District's Office of Teaching & Learning. Each year, we seek to engage students and adults in reading for enjoyment as well as for the academic benefits of ongoing learning. We also encourage Summer Reading participants to motivate and encourage each other by sharing what they are reading on social media using #GetCaughtReading. We invite all JPS scholars in grades K-12 and their families to remain plugged into summer reading.
The Read On Jackson Program is a summer reading movement that encourages and supports JPS students and their families with their summer reading assignments. Jackson Public Schools requires all students to read at least three books over the summer—one assigned title and two of the student's choice—and to complete a short writing assignment.
