Murrah Cadet of the Year Receives Legion of Valor Award

Murrah High School is proud to announce Elizabeth Hawkins is a 2021 recipient of the Legion of Valor Bronze Cross for Achievement. This award is presented to top Army JROTC (Junior Reserve Officer's Training Corps) cadets around the world during their senior year.
Cadet Hawkins was nominated by MAJ Robert Morton, Senior Army Instructor of Murrah's JROTC Program, and was endorsed by the District Army Instructor and her school's principal.
"I have found Miss Hawkins to be a courteous, mature, and outstanding scholar," said Dr. Alvanette Buchanan, principal of Murrah High School. "She is a well-respected, high-performing leader, and scholar. Cadet Hawkins is ranked No. 1 out of 334 in her class. She scored a 31 on the ACT, scored a 98 on the ASVAB, and is enrolled in Advanced Placement courses. Elizabeth is respected by her peers and faculty and she possesses a high intellect, outstanding skills, and a high level of confidence along with strength of character. We are proud that Cadet Hawkins is representing Murrah High School with this prestigious award."
"Cadet LTC Hawkins is a mentor and an example to the cadets and students at Murrah High School, and is mission-oriented along with being a selfless team player," added MAJ Morton. "Her calm demeanor and her high level of energy provide motivation to her peers to do their best in all that they do. Cadet Hawkins has performed in an outstanding manner in all assigned tasks and duties that she has been assigned. She is mature and responsible beyond her years, a leader, a scholar and a friend all can count on."
Hawkins was selected the Murrah High JROTC Cadet of the Year in 2021 as a junior. During her senior year, she will serve on the JROTC command staff. She plans to attend college, major in pre-med/biology with a goal of becoming a surgeon.
