On Saturday, October 12, the 100 Black Men of Jackson celebrated their 34th Annual Scholars and Mentoring Banquet. The event recognized the accomplishments of mentors and mentees, as well as the individuals and organizations that partner with the organization to positively shape the lives of young Black men.

A highlight of the evening was the presentation of the 2024 Mentee of the Year award to Chase Ragsdale, a 5th grade scholar from Galloway Elementary School.
“Chase is a bright, dedicated young leader with a thirst for learning," said Principal Linda Murray. "He enters Galloway Elementary each day with a big smile on his face and a willingness to get involved in all classroom tasks. Chase is an enthusiastic learner who seems to enjoy school and has a positive attitude. Chase is well on track to end the year with some great results.”

In addition to the mentee recognition, Jaimar Scott, a Jackson Public Schools (JPS) parent and active Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students) volunteer, was honored as the 2024 Mentor of the Year for his outstanding work at Lanier Junior/Senior High and Powell Middle School. Scott’s dedication to mentoring has made a significant impact, especially in supporting the academic and personal growth of young men in the district.
Several JPS scholars also participated in the banquet, showcasing their achievements and leadership within the program. These scholars include:

- Terrance Wells, Lanier Junior/Senior High School
- Ayden Davis, Walton Elementary
- Jermiah Brinson, Lanier Junior/Senior High School
- Syrius Anderson, Powell Middle School
Superintendent Dr. Errick L. Greene expressed his gratitude to the organization, stating, “Thank you to the 100 Black Men for all you do for Jackson Public Schools and the extended Jackson community. Your presence as male role models for our young men inspires them to challenge themselves, strive for excellence, and succeed both in and out of the classroom.”
The 100 Black Men of Jackson has been a longtime supporter of JPS scholars, sponsoring field trips, tutoring sessions, swimming lessons, and scholarships for young men across the district.
