Charles McInnis Named Chief of JPS Campus Enforcement and Emergency Management

The JPS Board of Trustees has appointed Charles McInnis as the chief of campus enforcement and emergency management. Chief McInnis recently served as interim chief and coordinator (deputy chief), with JPS Campus Enforcement. In this role, he was responsible for the 24/7 dispatch office, intrusion alarm systems, closed circuit television systems, and various other areas within the department that supported the District.
Chief McInnis began his career with the Jackson Public School District nearly 24 years ago as a school safety officer. After one year, he transitioned to the 24-hour dispatch center. After three years, he was promoted to dispatch supervisor. In 2012, Chief McInnis gained a law enforcement officer certification after completing 16 weeks of training through the Hinds County Sherriff’s Office Reserve Officer Training Academy and was moved into the position of coordinator, which holds the law enforcement equivalent of deputy chief.
Chief McInnis also holds many state and national certifications, which include Terminal Agency Coordinator Officer certification through the Department of Public Safety, E911 telecommunicator, national E911 telecommunicator, basic life support (BLS) trainer, rapid response to active shooter situations, criminal investigations certification, school resource officer certification, Glock Armorer certification, and many others.
