JPS 2023 Teacher of the Year Selected as Runner-Up for State Teacher of the Year

Congratulations to the 2022-2023 JPS Teacher of the Year, Lynsey McQueen! She was recently selected as runner-up for the Mississippi Department of Education’s 2023 State of Mississippi Teacher of the Year.

Ms. McQueen is humbled to be selected for such a prestigious honor. “I’m very ecstatic about being named alternate for Mississippi’s Teacher of the Year. It has been a humbling experience getting as far as I did, and I’m elated that I was able to represent Jackson Public Schools," said McQueen.

McQueen teaches third grade at Dawson Elementary. Since her tenure at Dawson, which began in 2014, Ms. McQueen has continuously shown her passion and dedication to teaching and serving her community, especially youth.  Serving as team lead for several years in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades, she has aided in improving academic achievement and growth. Ranking within the top 10 elementary teachers for proficiency in reading, mathematics, and science, Ms. McQueen’s effective instructional strategies have played a vital role in Dawson achieving and maintaining its “B” rating.

Ms. McQueen graduated from Jackson State University in 2013 with a B.S. in biology and decided to follow one of her lifelong dreams of becoming a teacher. In 2015, Ms. McQueen furthered her education by earning a M.S. in biological sciences. She is currently pursuing her doctoral degree in public health and master’s degree in curriculum and instruction. 

Ms. McQueen’s true dedication and love for JPS are shown through her selfless acts and daily performance. Always boasting about being a product of “THEE JPS”, she works tirelessly in building positive relationships and maintaining a positive and respectful culture.
