Forest Hill Recognized as a School of Excellence by ACAC
Forest Hill High School is one of 19 high schools in the nation and the only one in the state of Mississippi to be recognized as a School of Excellence by the American College Application Campaign (ACAC) for increasing the number of first-generation college students and students pursuing postsecondary success. The school completed 450 applications!
“We are celebrating the monumental effort shown by school staff, community members, and state leaders to help our students achieve college success after high school. Now more than ever, students deserve to have resources readily available to help them through the complex college application and admission process,” said Get2College, a program of the Woodward Hines Education Foundation that offers college-planning services to students and families in Mississippi.
The purpose of the ACAC is to assist high school seniors as they navigate the college application and admissions process and ensure each participating student submits at least one admissions application. Since the campaign began in 2005, 3.69 million students in 50 states and the District of Columbia have submitted 5.99 million applications! ACAC selections are based on a school’s demonstrated commitment to student success and serving as an exemplary model for their state’s college application campaign. Each winning school will receive a plaque and be celebrated during virtual ceremonies.
"My staff and I have worked really hard since I was entrusted to lead the University of South Jackson," said Forest Hill Principal Torrey Hampton. "This shows that perseverance, consistency, and commitment to academic excellence can be attained in many shapes and forms. Our mantra 'All Hands on Deck' is how we will continue to move our school, community, and district forward."
