JPS Administrator Appointed to University of Mississippi School of Education Board of Advisors

JPS Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Schools Dr. Kathleen Grigsby has been appointed to the University of Mississippi School of Education Board of Advisors.
The purpose of the board is to engage alumni, friends, and supporters in furthering the vision and mission of the University of Mississippi School of Education by providing advice and counseling and assisting in selecting and recognizing fellow alumni and education practitioners for outstanding performance and service, and other duties. Board members are appointed for three-year terms.
Dr. Grigsby graduated from the School of Education with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education in 1998 and a Master of Education degree in Curriculum & Instruction in 1999. Additionally, the university recognized Grigsby as a distinguished alumna and inducted her into the School of Education Hall of Fame in 2018.
Dr. Grigsby's additional professional achievements include specialist and doctorate degrees in Education from Mississippi College. She made history at the institution as the first graduate of the doctoral program in Education.
Before being promoted to serve as an Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Schools in 2019, she was the principal of Barack Obama Magnet Elementary and led the school to an A rating for five years in a row. Under her leadership, Obama Magnet was ranked the top school in the state for two consecutive years. As a result of her role in leading the school to success, she was named the JPS Administrator of the Year and advanced to the 2nd Congressional District Administrator of the Year in 2018. The following year, the Mississippi Association of Colleges of Teacher Education recognized Grigsby with the Outstanding Administrator award after being selected by both Mississippi College and Jackson State University.
