Great things are happening at The University of South Jackson
Mr. Jones, accompanied by alumni Josalyn Campbell and Briana Wallace, participated in the 2023 NTPC Magic conference hosted by New Taipei City in Taiwan. Partner school New Taipei Municipal Taishan Senior High School invited Forest Hill to attend. The theme of the conference was on finding innovative ways to achieve carbon neutrality. The students, with significant help from Jackson State University’s Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, created a project entitled “Bioengineering in Yazoo Clay,” which strived to find an alternative and environmentally responsible way of dealing with Jackson, Mississippi’s water infrastructure crisis. The students presented their collaborative project to an international audience numbered in the hundreds. At the same time, Mr. Jones engaged in a large-scale common planning session with teachers from eight countries. The session’s focus was on increasing interdisciplinary collaboration on the secondary level. The week-long event concluded with a school visit to Taishan Senior High School, which had previously during the 2022-2023 school year established a language exchange program with Forest Hill. Mr. Jones firmly believes that students cannot have a global mindset until they have the tools to engage with the world.
