Mississippi Lawmaker Secures $100,000 in Funding for Callaway High School
April 30, 2019
Rep. Debra Gibbs
Representative Debra Gibbs, D-Jackson, is always working to support the communities she represents in any way she can. In the 2019 legislative session, Mississippi lawmakers approved bonding authority in Senate Bill 3049, the Department of Finance and Administration Appropriation Bill. Through this process, Gibbs secured funding of $100,000 for Callaway High School that will assist the school with a lighting project and related improvements. A ceremony will be planned this spring to acknowledge the funding and the specifics of the project.
"This is my first term in the Legislature, so I am very elated to have brought funds back to my District," said Gibbs.
Gibbs, along with other Hinds County legislators, also obtained funding this session through Senate Bill 3049 and House Bill 1612. SB 3049, Capitol Complex Improvement District, provides up to $10.5 million in bonding capacity to the City of Jackson. HB 1612, Community Improvement District, allows neighborhood associations with a 501(c) 3 status to secure neighborhood funding up to 6 mills. The funding must be used for neighborhood improvements and be approved by a 60% majority vote of the residents.
