June 13, 2024 - Over 40 Central Mississippi scholars, hand-picked by their schools, enjoyed a week-long training camp learning about the future of aviation.
The program known as JET-A, “Fueling the Future of Aviation - Get Set to Jet!” ran June 10 - 14, 2024, at Hawkins Field (HKS), Raymond Airport, Jackson State University, the 172d Airlift Wing, and Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport (JAN).
It's the 5th Annual JMAA Education & Training Academy and the scholars, dozens of which are from Jackson Public Schools, make up the largest JET-A class. Students were chosen for their potential to become future aviation professionals.

The 172nd Airlift Wing hosted the students during the training and allowed them to tour a C-17 Globemaster III, where they learned about the capabilities and operations of world-class airlift, the day-to-day work and the Airmen that make it possible.
On another day, JET-A students took a moment to honor the life and legacy of Medgar Evers on the anniversary of his death. Holding up his photo, they reflected on his incredible contributions to the Civil Rights Movement before beginning their activities.
