Congratulations to the following JPS team members on their new roles for the 2022-2023 school year! Each one has demonstrated a love for education and dedication to providing quality education for scholars.
Dr. Teresa Barnes, Blackburn Middle
Dr. Teresa Barnes will serve as principal of Blackburn Middle School for the 2022-2023 school year. Dr. Barnes previously served as assistant principal at Provine High School. She offered support in administration and supervision, academic policy, school assessment, design and delivery of professional development, and implementation of curricular standards. Her career began in JPS during the late ‘90s. Dr. Barnes went from teaching elementary scholars to serving in a progressive role as a district-level administrator specializing in curriculum, instruction, assessment, and teacher support. Before returning to JPS, Dr. Barnes was an assistant director at the Mississippi Community College Board.
Dr. Barnes matriculated at Jackson State University, earning a Bachelor of Science in elementary education, a Master of Science in educational administration, and a Doctor of Philosophy in educational administration. She also earned an Education Specialist in Educational Leadership at Mississippi College.
Candice Beasley, Cardozo Middle
Candice Beasley will serve as principal of Cardozo Middle School for the 2022-2023 school year. She brings 19 years of educational experience to this new role, with nine as a member of team JPS. Her educational experience began in Moss Point at Kreole Elementary as a fifth-grade science teacher. She later went on to serve as a math teacher and bus driver at Gulfport High School, Crystal Springs Middle School, and Crystal Springs High School. She has also been employed by Hazlehurst School District at Hazlehurst Middle School as a math instructional coach and later moved to JPS as a math interventionist at Brinkley Middle School and Rowan Middle School. Ms. Beasley also served at Siwell Middle School and Cardozo Middle School as an assistant principal and Boyd Elementary School as principal.
Ms. Beasley is a native of Jackson, Mississippi, but completed her high school studies at Harrison Central High School in Gulfport, Mississippi. She attended the University of Southern Mississippi and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in elementary education with an emphasis in math and science, and she earned a Specialist Degree in educational leadership. She also earned a Master of Science in elementary education from Jackson State University. Ms. Beasley has also been trained in leadership through the National Institute of School Leadership.
Ms. Beasley has a passion for teaching and learning. She believes that children are entitled to the best education professionals have to offer, including providing the proper support for each child. “Every child has a right to have an opportunity to be successful in life and to be competitive to earn the best jobs available.”
Dr. Jamiette D. Carter, Pecan Park Elementary
Dr. Jamiette D. Carter will serve as principal of Pecan Park Elementary School for the 2022-2023 school year. Dr. Carter has been with JPS for over 11 years and has significant experience assisting teachers and administrators with guiding students toward meeting individual learning goals. She most recently served as the director of program implementation for the JPS Office of School Support. In this role, she worked directly with district superintendents, principals, and other stakeholders to facilitate school improvement initiatives and federal compliance. Her career began in the classroom at Lester Elementary, where she taught 4th and 5th grade ELA while also providing support to school administrators. She then honed her leadership skills as a curriculum coordinator with the Office of Elementary Education and as an interventionist at Power APAC, helping to maintain its A rating during her three-year tenure. Dr. Carter is a 2009 honor graduate of Tougaloo College where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in psychology. She earned her master’s in elementary education with the highest honor of Summa Cum Laude from Belhaven College and earned her Ph.D. with the highest honor of Summa Cum Laude from Jackson State University in 2018. Dr. Carter is also a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. As the new lead principal of Pecan Park, she is excited to build on our tradition of excellence for all!
Ashley Molden, JPS-Tougaloo Early College High
Ashley Molden will serve as principal of the JPS-Tougaloo Early College High School (JTECHS) Program for the 2022-2023 school year. Mrs. Molden previously served as the intervention specialist for JTECHS. In this role, she supported the program by providing academic support and instructional coaching for teachers. Additionally, she served as the college liaison who was responsible for working with Tougaloo College to provide support to students enrolled in the dual enrollment program. Next school year, Mrs. Molden will be embarking on her 11th year with the Jackson Public School District. She has served the district in multiple positions ranging from middle school ELA teacher, IBMYP coordinator, and district lead interventionist.
Mrs. Molden earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Tougaloo College. Additionally, she earned a Master of Arts in teaching from Jackson State University and an education specialist in administration from Arkansas State University. Molden is married to Charles Molden Jr., and they are the proud parents of Trey and Carter.
