Congratulations to the 2021 Counselors of the Year
April 26, 2021
Ebonie Butler-Cheeks, JPS Counselor of the Year |
Jackson Public Schools announced Ebonie Butler-Cheeks was named the 2020-2021 JPS Counselor of the Year. As a senior counselor, Butler-Cheeks finds her greatest fulfillment each year as seniors graduate. She says it’s because she gets to how her scholars overcome their challenges to graduate. This undoubtedly informs her educational philosophy: "Every Child is a Success Story." When working with scholars, her primary goal is to help them to grow in ways that lead to their success. Her focus is on the pen and the pad in the individual scholar's hands with the goal of guiding them to be productive citizens.

The campaign focuses public attention on the unique contributions of Professional School Counselors within U.S. school systems and how students benefit from having access to Professional School Counselors. Furthermore, the event highlights the tremendous impact Professional School Counselors can have in helping students achieve school success and plan for their future careers.
