JPS Veteran Educator to Head New Office of Safe Schools and Healthy Students

Jackson Public Schools appointed Patrick McGriggs as the Director of Safe Schools and Healthy Students, where he has served over the past two years. He brings 19 years of educational experience working with scholars and families. In his current role, Mr. McGriggs serves as the Program Manager for the Communities in Schools Grant and the District Lead for Community Schools. He provides integrated support services that remove educational barriers, improve attendance rates, and reduce chronic absenteeism.
Mr. McGriggs has recently been accepted to the InSpire Action Equity Fellowship Program in partnership with other Communities In Schools National colleagues. He was selected among participants from the network for a 10-month transformative experience to learn about equitable practices, organizational management, and incorporating principles of design thinking.
Mr. McGriggs began his career as a fourth-grade teacher at Shirley (formerly Lee) Elementary School before transitioning to a position in the Exceptional Education Department as a Positive Behavioral Specialist and School Psychometrist. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice, master’s degrees in Public Policy and Administration and Educational Administration and Supervision, and a Specialist degree in Educational Psychometry, all from Jackson State University.
