Love for Learning Shines at the 2024 Outstanding Educator Awards Ceremony
The passion for learning was palpable as teachers were honored at the 2024 Outstanding Educator Awards Ceremony.
On October 9, Ask for More Jackson celebrated ten Jackson Public Schools (JPS) educators at the Jackson Medical Mall's Community Room, surrounded by families, friends, principals, and district leaders who gathered to applaud their success.
“There’s no question why Jackson Public Schools continues to improve," said Dr. Errick L. Greene. "It’s not because Superman sits in the superintendent’s office—because that’s not true—it’s because of these folks and others like them who do amazing work every day,” Greene said as he pointed to the honorees.
One by one, each educator took center stage, expressing their gratitude, surprise, and awe at the recognition.
“This recognition not only highlights the work I do but also inspires the passion that fuels my daily efforts,” said Tameka J. Battle of Callaway High School.
The annual event underscores the crucial role that educators play in shaping the future, celebrating teachers who go above and beyond for their students.
“I give my students my absolute best every day because I, in turn, expect their best—every single day,” said Monique Mapp of Shirley Elementary.
“I wouldn’t be as passionate about this career if it weren’t for my wonderful EL students,” added Taylor Gabrielle Hyde of Pecan Park Elementary. “Being their ‘maestra’ is a title I wake up for every single morning.”
The awards were made possible by a generous donor through the Outstanding Educator Award Funds at the Community Foundation for Mississippi. Each honoree received financial support that could be used for professional or personal purposes.
“There are so many outstanding teachers in the district, and we commend them all for their dedication and commitment to educating scholars,” said Gwen Gardner of Ask for More Jackson. “We thank and appreciate teachers for planting the seeds of knowledge that continues to grow.”
