Jim Hill Alum & National Sports Writer Returns to Teach Journalism at JSU

Wilton has made remarkable strides in journalism. He served as a national writer for Sports Illustrated for over three years before departing in January. A prolific writer, he now teaches journalism at Jackson State University. His insightful reporting can currently be found on ESPN’s Andscape, The Next Hoops, and other prominent platforms.
Wilton’s journey included roles as a breaking/trending news and sports reporter for The Clarion Ledger and a digital content producer at WSB-TV in Atlanta. He has freelanced for various companies and appeared on multiple high-profile platforms to share his work.
Wilton holds a bachelor’s degree in multimedia journalism from the University of Southern Mississippi (2015), a master’s in mass communication/journalism from LSU (2019), and a second master’s in sport management from Jackson State University (2023).
He is a proud fall 2012 initiate of the Kappa Iota Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated.
Wilton is the son of Wilton "Chuck" Jackson, JPS Executive Director of Finance and Operations for Assets and Purchasing. His legacy of excellence is truly a family tradition! #StrongFinish!
