Each year, the Jackson Public Schools Facilities Department recognizes employees at the annual Maintenance Awards Luncheon. The event was held June 24, 2016, at Cardozo Middle School. The guest speaker for the program was JPS Board member Rickey Jones.

"Often times when we talk about school systems you hear about the superintendent, you hear about the principals, you hear about the teachers, but to me, the most important people are you, the unsung heroes of the District," said Jones.

Superintendent Dr. Cedrick Gray also thanked employees for their hard work and dedication to the District.

Other program participants included Facilities Executive Director Fred Davis, Environmental Coordinator Pamela Young, and Construction Services Director Sandra Robinson.

Employees won door prizes while enjoying a meal and fellowship at the luncheon held to recognize them for their dedication to excellence in building stronger schools. Awards were presented for achievements in safe driving and years of service.

Facilities and Operations is composed of nearly a dozen service areas including architectural services, custodial services, preventive maintenance, plumbing, and site care. The department and its employees are primarily responsible for inspecting and maintaining facilities and providing ongoing maintenance to the more than 100 sites in the school district.

Davis gave special thanks to all the vendors that helped sponsor the event, including Siemens.
