Murrah HS Alum Returns to Alma Mater as Head Coach after Playing Professionally Overseas

Murrah High School alum, Jeremy Caldwell, has returned to his alma mater as its new head basketball coach. Caldwell has extensive experience, including five years of teaching and six years as an assistant coach, providing him with a solid foundation to lead the Mustangs.
In a press event on Monday, September 9, 2024, at Murrah High School, Caldwell described his new assignment in a place from his past.
"Returning to your alma mater to make a difference is like coming home and finding the keys to a room you never knew you had," said Caldwell. "It’s a blend of nostalgia and discovery, where past and present intertwine to shape a brighter future."
Caldwell's deep connection to Murrah High School is underscored by his pivotal role on the 2005 Mustangs team that secured the 5A State Championship. His impressive journey continued at Jackson State University, where he earned both a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Teaching degree in Education. As a student-athlete at Jackson State, he achieved notable accolades, including a 1st Team All-SWAC selection, membership in the 1,000 Points Club, 2nd Team All-American honors, and a SWAC Tournament Championship.
Following his college career, Coach Caldwell expanded his horizons internationally, playing professional basketball for eight years in various countries. His overseas career included stints in Argentina; Iceland with Breidablik, where he averaged 15 points and 10 rebounds per game; in Spain with Villamuriel, where he posted averages of 13 points and 12 rebounds per game; in Morocco with Sport Plaza, averaging 16 points and 10 rebounds per game; and in El Salvador with Denver, where he contributed 15 points and 8 rebounds per game. He also gained experience with the NBA Developmental League.
With a wealth of experience and a strong personal connection to the program, Coach Caldwell is enthusiastic about the opportunity to return to Murrah High School and work towards reinstating the dominance of the boys' basketball program. His return marks the beginning of a new day, and a new chapter of leadership and excellence for the Mustangs.
