Jackson Middle College Scholars Awarded at 2024 Miss. Educators Rising Competition

March 28, 2024 - The scholars of Jackson Middle College proudly represented Jackson Public School's Career Development Center at the 2024 MS Educators Rising Competition held from February 22-23, 2024, at Mississippi College.

In their inaugural year of participation, twelve out of the 16 JMC scholars took part, with all but one securing placements. We are thrilled to highlight the exceptional accomplishments of the following scholars in the competition:

  • Kristen Rhodes clinched first place in the Educators Rising Moment Speech competition. This competition aims to provide students at the Educators Rising Conference with a platform to articulate their aspirations for a career in education.

  • La'Ziyah Walker secured second place in the Creative Lecture TedTalk competition. This competition offers visionary students a platform to share their bold ideas on a topic embraced by intellectual society. The theme for the 2024 Creative Lecture Competition was teacher salaries.
  • Karmen Hobson, Chloey Day, and Khadarius Johnson achieved fourth place in the Researching Learning Challenges competition. This contest allows Educators Rising scholars to delve deeply into effective educational support for students with special needs. This year's focus was on Dyscalculia, a specific learning disability.

Congratulations are in order to Asiah Scott, Tamiyah Jacobs, Alicia Tolliver, and Mya Nelson, who secured seventh place in the Ethical Dilemma competition. This challenge encourages students to grapple with ethical issues, employ critical-thinking skills, and engage in persuasive communication to debate ethical dilemmas collaboratively.

Giovanni DeVeres and Christiana Stringfellow also secured seventh place in the Children's Literature Pre-K competition.

Emmariana Williams participated in the Children's Literature K-3 Competition. Although she did not secure a placement, she is gearing up for a return next year with determination to achieve success.

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to our exceptional future educators, and a special acknowledgment to Kristen Rhodes, who will be advancing to Nationals in June 2024 in Washington, D.C.
