Jackson Public Schools Welcomes Mitch McGuffey to School Board

Jackson Public Schools is pleased to announce Mitch McGuffey as the newest member of the Board of Trustees. He fills the vacancy in Ward 7, bringing the Board to a full slate of officers with one representative serving from each of the city's seven wards. McGuffey was recently sworn in by Attorney Larissa Moore at JPS Central Office headquarters.

Mitch McGuffey is a partner at Forman Watkins & Krutz LLP. His practice focuses on various areas of litigation, including complex commercial litigation, product liability, environmental litigation, and appellate litigation. His litigation practice allows him to serve as counsel to both plaintiffs and defendants. Outside the litigation context, Mitch provides legal advice to companies on formation, land and commercial leases, zoning, and development. Locally, he also serves as outside counsel for Jxn Water, Inc.

In addition, Mitch was a co-drafter of Forman Watkins’ pro bono policy and serves as a member of the firm’s Pro Bono Committee, which oversees the firm’s partnerships and pro bono efforts. He counts among his career highlights the variety of pro bono work he has done throughout his career, representing asylum seekers, tenants facing foreclosure, and death row exonerees seeking assistance with a variety of issues.

Mitch is married to a wonderful and talented wife, Amanda, and is a father to three children, two bright young women, and a baby boy. Mitch is a proud JPS parent with his oldest daughter, Maybelle, attending Bailey APAC Middle School, and his younger daughter, Eleanor, attending McWillie Elementary School. Before joining the JPS Board, Mitch served as a member of the Bond Oversight Committee and the Facilities Advisory Committee. His wife Amanda has served as treasurer of the McWillie PTA and worked for several years for the Greater Belhaven Neighborhood Foundation.

Mitch and his family attend Redeemer Presbyterian Church, and they serve as growth group leaders within the church. Mitch received his Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from the University of Virginia School of Law and holds degrees in graphic design and business administration from Auburn University.
