Earlier this month, JPS leaders from across the District and Central Office participated in the 2022 June Leadership Institute in an effort to prepare for the upcoming school year. This year’s theme was “A Renewed Focus.” The District is prioritizing the reestablishment of its focus on the core of its work, which is always teaching and learning.

This year’s keynote speakers were Superintendent Dr. Errick L. Greene, Office of Teaching and Learning Executive Director Dr. Kimberly Smith, and Deputy Superintendent Dr. Michael Cormack. Instructional priorities included #1 Acceleration of Learning, #2 Balanced Assessment System, and #3 A Culture of Observation and Feedback. The three-day workshop also included divisional content sessions led by other district leaders and differentiated sessions led by external organizations like CT3.

In July 2019, JPS launched Excellence for All: The Strategic Plan for Educating Jackson Scholars. This five-year strategic plan focuses on five commitments: A Strong Start, Innovative Teaching and Learning, Talented and Empowered Teams, Joyful Learning Environments, and A Culture of Accountability and Excellence. JPS remains committed to these goals as it continues to reestablish a new normal.

“My charge to each of you for the 2022-2023 school year is to renew your focus,” said Superintendent Dr. Errick L. Greene. “Please take this opportunity to reenergize your school community to provide high-quality instruction, to remove any barriers to scholar success, and to create vibrant and joyful environments in support of excellence for scholars and team members. With this renewed focus, I’m confident that we can sustain the great accomplishments we’ve made and reach even higher heights.”
