May 20, 2022
Jim Hill scholar-athlete Sha’Merial Lacey signed a scholarship to power lift for Blue Mountain College. Sha’Merial is the first JPS female athlete to sign a powerlifting scholarship!
Jim Hill High hosted Sha’Merial’s signing day on Thursday, May 19, where she was surrounded by family, friends, coaches, and teammates. “It feels unbelievable, and I’m still not done processing it yet,” she said. Sha’Merial has been a part of the powerlifting program since her sophomore year of high school. Her coaches and teammates consider her one of the most valuable resources to the program. “Sha’Merial is my backbone. She is really my assistant coach. The success of the team this year is mainly because of Sha’Merial Lacey. She goes and recruits. She is my contact person if I need to express things to the team. I go through her, and she does that for me. She is just a blessing,” said Stanley Spell, powerlifting coach for Jim Hill High School.
Sha’Merial’s plan is to major in physical therapy and try out for the softball team once enrolled in school.
