Lanier High School National Alumni Association Donates $13,000 to 833 Nation
October 13, 2021
Lanier High School Principal Dr. Valerie Bradley accepts a check for $13,000 from the Lanier High School National Alumni Association. |
The Lanier High School National Alumni Association presented a check for $13,000 to Lanier during its Annual School Donation and Awards program. The event was held at the school October 7 with a small crowd of faithful alumni and school staff in attendance. The presentation is a $3,000 increase over the amount given in the last few years. Remarkably, most of the funds are raised during a Christmas in July event and through Mississippi license plate sales. This year, 2002 graduates Xavius Levy and Tiffany Brown coordinated an additional fundraising effort during Homecoming week.
The program included remarks and presentations from Alumni Association Board members and Principal Dr. Valerie Bradley.
The funds will be used to support the school's students and teachers. Some of the funds were used for jerseys for the school's basketball team, winners of the 2021 state championship. Additionally, the school will be able to sponsor college tours for students and purchase supplies for teachers to use in the classroom.
The Lanier High School National Alumni Association is committed to the academic excellence of the next generation of Lanier graduates. The non-profit organization was established to support Lanier High School students' and parents' academic, social, and economic needs. Lanier is the oldest high school built to serve African-American students in the time of segregation in Jackson, Mississippi.
