Veteran educator Janet Wallace will move from the Office of Teaching and Learning to join the Office of Recruitment as the Manager of Teacher Support and Retention. In that role, she will be responsible for contributing to the development of highly effective teachers. She will work in alignment with Central Office and school leaders to support the development and implementation of processes and practices that support the District's teacher pipeline and retention goals, specifically around critical shortage areas.
Wallace previously served as Curriculum Lead of New Teacher Induction. She was primarily responsible for coordinating development programs for new teachers. The move to Human Resources will allow the District to leverage her well-honed expertise to deliver the necessary supports to grow and retain new teacher hires.
Wallace began her career in JPS as a fifth-grade teacher at Obama Magnet Elementary, where she also served as the school's interventionist. Wallace earned her bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Jackson State University. She earned her master's in Education from Walden University and recently earned her Education Specialist in Administration from Mississippi College.
Originally from Aurora, Colorado, Wallace currently resides in Ridgeland, Mississippi, with her husband, H. Dakarai Wallace, and their three sons, Dakarai (13), Grayson (5), and Kashton (3). Additionally, Wallace is active in her community as a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and the Junior League of Jackson.
