At its regular meeting held Tuesday, April 21, the Board of Trustees approved the suspension of policies related to grading, promotion and retention, and graduation of students. The policy action was necessary to mitigate the impact of COVID-19 response measures taken by state and local governments and the Mississippi Department of Education. The policy suspensions are as follows:
GRADING (IGA, IGAB)
- Students are to receive a grade of 100 for Term 4 for completing instructional packets or assignments from their teachers.
- The 100 grade will be averaged with grades from Terms 1-3 completed prior to Spring Break to determine the final average.
- There will be no penalty for students who do not complete the assignments. Their Term 4 grade will be the average of Terms 1-3.
- For all students, their cumulative or final grade will be an average of Semester 1 and Semester 2.
PROMOTION AND RETENTION OF STUDENTS (JBJ-IGD)
- The District will only evaluate Grades 1–8 core content areas of English/Language Arts and Mathematics for promotion.
- The promotion of high school students will be determined by course completion and Carnegie units.
HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS (IGB)
- Graduation procedures will be revised to match the minimum number of Carnegie units required by the Mississippi Department of Education.
- Courses that students take must match their graduation pathway.
- State testing will not be required for seniors who are eligible to graduate.
