Murrah Students Headed to Detroit for National NAACP ACT-SO Competition

Two Murrah High School students have earned a chance to compete in the National ACT-SO Competition to be held July 18–21 in Detroit. Jeffery Caliedo won Gold in Poetry-Written, Poetry-Performance and Dramatic Arts-Acting. Jameia Boone won Gold in two categories, Dance-Contemporary and Dance-Ballet. They will join three more Gold winners from the Mississippi NAACP ACT-SO Competition held April 6. These students are from Hinds County Schools and Clinton Public Schools. These five students will compete for the championship, scholarships and other prizes at the national competition.

Jeffery Caleido and Jameia Boone will compete at the National ACT-SO competition in Detroit this summer after winning Gold in multiple categories at the local competition.

ACT-SO stands for Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological, and Scientific Olympics. ACT-SO is a major youth initiative of the NAACP. The program provides a forum through which African-American youth can demonstrate academic, artistic and scientific excellence, and showcase their talents in state and national competitions.
