JPS Expresses Disappointment in MHSAA Ruling Against Forest Hill High School's Band

October 24, 2018

Building Stronger Schools Together - Jackson Public Schools

After a hearing on October 23, 2018, the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) upheld the restrictive probation for Forest Hill High School's band for the remainder of the 2018-19 school year. Due to the restrictive probation, students are not allowed to march on the field during upcoming football games or participate in other MHSAA activities.

We are extremely disappointed in the ruling and the effect it will have on our students, especially our seniors. As we’ve stated previously, the students are not at fault and they should not be held accountable for the performance in Brookhaven, Mississippi on October 5.

The Jackson Public School District will continue to support our students' ongoing development as musicians and scholars. We thank all of those who have expressed their support toward our students during this unfortunate incident, and we look forward to celebrating their future growth and achievement.
