February 11, 2025 - Eight outstanding scholars from Wells Academic and Performing Arts Complex (APAC) have been officially inducted into the prestigious National Elementary Honor Society (NEHS). The ceremony, held on February 3, 2025, recognized these young scholars for their academic excellence, leadership, service, and character—core values of the esteemed organization.

This year’s induction ceremony was marked by an inspiring keynote address from Mississippi Lieutenant Governor C. Delbert Hosemann Jr. He encouraged the inductees to cultivate a habit of daily reading and approach each school day with a commitment to learning. His words underscored the importance of education as a foundation for future success.

The event, which took place in the Wells APAC Auditorium, began with a formal processional of the 2024–2025 inductees. Following the Pledge of Allegiance, the National Anthem, and welcoming remarks by Principal Dr. Rankin, the scholars were officially recognized for their achievements. The ceremony featured the traditional Lighting of the Candles, symbolizing the four pillars of NEHS—Scholarship, Service, Leadership, and Character—led by faculty members. Each inductee received a membership pin, marking their entry into this distinguished organization.

The 2024-2025 Wells APAC NEHS inductees are:

  • Oliver Cook (Marshal: Ginger Cook)
  • Reginald Glenn (Marshal: Tamara Glenn)
  • Audrey Gonzalez-Fernandez (Marshal: Meredith Gonzalez)
  • Harper Lee (Marshal: Stacy King Lee)
  • Ava Marie Grace McInnis (Marshal: Glen McInnis)
  • Jesse Newell (Marshal: Esther Margaret)
  • Damien Pitchamootoo (Marshal: Jessica Pitchamootoo)
  • Faith Simmons (Marshal: Shawanda Simmons)

The ceremony concluded with the official NEHS pledge, led by Dr. Smith, the NEHS advisor, followed by a recessional. Families, faculty, and fellow scholars then gathered for a reception to celebrate this milestone achievement.

Dr. Diane Smith, Wells APAC Interventionist and NEHS Advisor, emphasized the significance of this induction. “The National Elementary Honor Society represents the values we strive to instill in our students. These scholars have demonstrated not only academic success but also a commitment to leadership and service, setting a strong foundation for their futures.”

Wells APAC takes great pride in fostering excellence and leadership among its scholars, and this year’s NEHS inductees exemplify those qualities. Congratulations to these young scholars on their well-earned recognition!
