JPS Names First Round of New Principals for the 2020-2021 School Year

At its May 5 regular meeting, the Jackson Public Schools Board of Trustees approved five new principal appointments for the 2020-2021 school year. Most of these new building leaders are homegrown professionals advancing from within our ranks. The one exception below is Dr. Shouttell Richardson. She is moving to Jackson from Little Rock with a broad background in early childhood. She has been selected to lead the new Pre-K school at Van Winkle Elementary.
Meet the New Principals
Joseph Collins, Boyd Elementary School
Joseph Collins, who was the assistant principal at Sykes Elementary, is moving to Boyd Elementary to serve as principal. Before coming to JPS, he was a science teacher in the Clinton Public School District. His career began in the Jefferson County Public District in Louisville, Kentucky, where he taught biology and engineering and coached track.
Mr. Collins holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology Education from Alcorn State University. He also holds a Master of Educational Leadership degree from Mississippi College. Mr. Collins intends to continue his education at Mississippi College in the curriculum and instruction doctoral program.
Mr. Collins is excited to be the principal at Boyd Elementary for the 2020-2021 school year. He believes that together we can accomplish more than we could ever imagine individually.
Lisa Hadden, Oak Forest Elementary School
Lisa Hadden previously served as an assistant principal at Johnson Elementary School in JPS. The areas she supported include administration and supervision of personnel, school testing, parent and student relations, and implementation of curricular standards. She oversaw the implementation of the Barksdale Reading Institute Parent Academy at Johnson Elementary. She served as the administrator for the Lake Elementary Afterschool Program in the 2019-2020 school year. Before coming to JPS, she was an administrative intern and teacher in the Rankin County School District. Ms. Hadden began her career in education as a high school English teacher for the Pearl Public School District. She taught middle school and high school English in the New Orleans charter school system. Before teaching, Ms. Hadden had a career in journalism and public relations in Mississippi and Florida. She is an adjunct professor at Belhaven University.
Ms. Hadden holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from Mississippi State University, a Master of Arts in English from Jackson State University, and a Specialist in Educational Leadership from the University of Mississippi Principal Corps program. She is a National Board Certified Teacher in English Language Arts for adolescents and young adults.
Dr. Anthony Moore, Casey Elementary School
Dr. Anthony Moore previously served as an assistant principal at Casey Elementary in JPS. The areas he supported included administration and supervision of personnel, Title I, school discipline, design and delivery of professional development, and implementation of curricular standards. His educational experiences started as a substitute teacher, which later landed him a teaching position at Duling/CAP Alternative School in JPS. During his tenure with JPS, he served in the roles of classroom teacher, assistant principal, and principal.
Dr. Moore holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of Southern Mississippi. He completed a Master of Arts in Teaching from Belhaven University and Education Specialist and Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership degrees at Mississippi College.
Earlier this year, Moore was named the District's first Education Leader of the Year.
Dr. Kescher Rankin, Power APAC Elementary
Dr. Kescher Love Rankin has served in education for over 22 years. She previously served as the principal of Van Winkle Elementary. Throughout her career, she has worked with parents, administrators, teachers, and students in many capacities: Even Start Parent Liaison, classroom teacher, instructional specialist, elementary curriculum coordinator, MDE external school-based coach, MDE literacy coach, adjunct professor, lead interventionist, and principal.
Dr. Rankin has a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Delta State University, a Master of Science in Reading Education from Jackson State University, and Specialist and Doctorate degrees in Educational Leadership from Mississippi College. In her spare time, she enjoys writing and reciting inspirational poetry. Dr. Rankin is driven by purpose, integrity, and commitment, and she is looking forward to serving the Power APAC community.
Dr. Shoutell Richardson, Van Winkle Elementary School
Dr. Richardson previously served as a principal at both Rockefeller Elementary and Chicot Primary School and Early Childhood Center in Little Rock, Arkansas. She has served in an education support role for over 25 years. This support included daily administration and supervision of personnel, academic policy, school testing, design and delivery of professional development, and implementation of curricular standards. Dr. Richardon also served as the Director of Elementary Education and Supervisor of Professional Development. Her career began in the Little Rock School District where she went from teaching elementary school to serving as an Arkansas Reading First Literacy Coach. She served in progressive roles as a district-level administrator specializing in curriculum, instruction, assessment, and teacher academic support. Dr.Richardson also brings several years of leadership over a charter school in the state.
Dr. Richardson holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from The University of Mississippi. She completed a Master of Education in Educational Administration with a focus in Curriculum and Instruction and a Doctorate in Educational Administration at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UALR).
