We are delighted to announce that the 2020 Summer Reading Program is well underway, and 99 Jams radio personality Christiana has agreed to serve as this year's Summer Reading Ambassador. Our readers will have opportunities to complete reading challenges and win prizes. Listen for radio announcements about the reading program this summer.
In addition to being an on-air personality for two radio stations, Christiana Williams also serves as the promotions director and an account manager at Alpha Media Jackson. A native of Meridian and a graduate of Jackson State University, she is a strong supporter of local community activities. She uses her expansive platform to communicate powerful messages of winning through positive image, self-worth, and dialogue. Additionally, she is a staunch advocate for children, particularly pushing for the development of physical fitness, health and wellness, and quality education. She is the wife of Ivy Williams and mother to nine-year-old Emma Williams.
The theme of the 2020 Summer Reading Program is "Engage and Escape with Reading." Each year, we seek to engage students and adults in reading for enjoyment. We also encourage Summer Reading participants to share what they are reading on social media using #GetCaughtReading. All JPS scholars in grades K-12 should participate.
Read On Jackson is a summer reading movement that encourages and supports JPS students and their families with their summer reading assignments. The District requires all students to read three books over the summer—one assigned title and two of the student's choice—and to complete a short writing assignment.
