Reading Fair

Purpose

The purpose of the District's reading fairs is to provide scholars in grades K-12 the opportunity to share their favorite book through a storyboard or various media source display. With the implementation of the Mississippi College-and Career-Readiness Standards (MS CCRS) for English Language Arts, World Languages, Visual Arts, and Early Childhood, an emphasis has been placed on student mastery of the skills and concepts necessary to read complex texts at each grade level, write texts using evidence, and create presentations that demonstrate imagination and effective use of various materials to express ideas.

There are two levels of Reading Fair competition in JPS: Level 1 – School and Level 2 – District. Only first-place winners from each division proceed to the next round of competition. Winners receive trophies, medals and other recognition for their accomplishment.
