Overview
Global Citizenship Project

The Jackson Public Schools (JPS) Global Citizenship Project (GCP) offers an exceptional opportunity for rising eleventh-grade scholars to participate in a meaningful, year-long global learning experience. Through this program, scholars will travel to a partner school in Accra, Ghana, while building connections with peers throughout the school year. These ongoing exchanges foster global awareness, cultural understanding, and lasting international friendships.
Program Benefits
Participation in GCP is about far more than travel—it is an opportunity for personal growth, leadership development, and real-world learning. JPS scholars will engage in collaborative, project-based experiences that encourage critical thinking around issues of equity across diverse social and economic contexts.
Throughout the program, scholars will develop essential skills in teamwork, global awareness, leadership, education, governance, and cultural understanding. They will explore cultural traditions such as music, food, and art, while also having the opportunity to:
- Learn about the educational systems and cultural backgrounds of peers in Accra
- Collaborate to create presentations highlighting the history, culture, and communities of the destinations they visit
- Travel to Washington, D.C., Accra, and Cape Coast, Ghana
This transformative experience is designed to broaden perspectives, strengthen global connections, and prepare scholars to engage thoughtfully and responsibly with an increasingly interconnected world.
By participating in the Global Citizenship Project, JPS scholars gain the tools to make a meaningful impact—locally and globally. This is not just a project; it is a platform for change that empowers scholars to expand their horizons, deepen their understanding, and become active global citizens.
