Wells Performing Arts Complex (PAC) is proud to celebrate its newest teacher, Ashia Benford (affectionately known to students and proffesionally as Ms. Ashia), who is currently performing on the mainstage in New Stage Theatre’s production of The Attala County Garden Club. This opportunity is significant on multiple levels, as New Stage Theatre is the only regional professional theatre in the state of Mississippi.

Ms. Ashia’s professional achievement provides a powerful, real-world connection for our students. They are receiving direct instruction on career readiness and professional preparation from a teacher who is actively applying those skills in the field. This creates a meaningful and visible example of attainable success within the theatre industry.
Ashia Benford is a highly respected theatre practitioner with years of stage experience across multiple states, along with film credits. She made her Jackson Public Schools debut last year as the director of Wells APAC Theatre’s award-winning production of For Colored Girls..., which received international recognition while representing the state of Mississippi.
In addition to her teaching and directing, Ms. Ashia is an accomplished coach and counselor. She integrates theatre techniques into her counseling practice, helping clients achieve transformative breakthroughs. She has also coached students across public and private sectors, with three former students currently performing on Broadway in productions such as Wicked and Hadestown. Notably, one of these performers is also a former Wells APAC Theatre student.
The Wells Theatre Department proudly encourages the district and community to support Ms. Ashia in this world premiere production, running April 7–19.
