Jackson Public Schools welcomes Lee Scott as the newest member of the district’s Board of Trustees. Scott brings a deep commitment to scholars, families, and community driven progress, along with years of leadership and service focused on creating real results.

Scott has more than five years of leadership experience and holds both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in leadership. His professional background in the nonprofit sector has shaped a collaborative approach rooted in listening, strategy, and action. He currently serves as an assistant director and counselor with Get2College, a program of the Woodward Hines Education Foundation, where he supports scholars with college planning, financial aid guidance, and academic and career advising.

Previously, Scott served as volunteer recruitment coordinator for the Jackson Leadership Foundation, a faith-based nonprofit that partners with more than ten organizations across the Jackson metro area. His leadership development also includes participation in the inaugural Change Collective cohort through Civic Nation in partnership with the Obama Foundation, as well as being an alumnus of the New Leaders Council’s Oklahoma chapter.

Scott remains actively engaged in the community. He is involved with the Association of South Jackson Neighborhoods and serves as president of the Mississippi Urban League Young Professionals. He also gives back through his church and volunteers as a mentor with Red Door Jackson. Beyond his professional and civic work, Scott hosts a podcast titled Leading with Lee, where he shares conversations about leadership, life, and legacy.

During his swearing in, Scott reflected on the personal meaning of this moment and the responsibility ahead.

“Today, I was officially sworn in as a member of Jackson Public School’s Board of Trustees. What an honor for me and my family. The main thing I reflected on today was that my seventy-nine-year-old grandfather, Issac Garland, did not get the opportunity to even finish grade school. He had to be pulled out of school to sharecrop. Now, his grandson gets to ensure that the children of our city can finish and thrive. I hope to make him and all of my family proud as I serve the over sixteen thousand children across Jackson. Let’s get to work.”

Jackson Public Schools looks forward to the perspective, energy, and commitment Scott brings as he begins his service to support scholars and strengthen schools across the district.
