Jackson Public Schools (JPS) has identified unauthorized and improper disbursements of funds (approximately $221,000) through an internal audit conducted by the district’s finance team.
JPS has taken swift action by launching a full investigation, placing two employees on administrative leave, and implementing immediate safeguards to prevent further unauthorized actions. In addition, the district's administration has self-reported this matter to the Office of the State Auditor for further review and guidance.
“We are committed to maintaining the highest standards of accountability and financial integrity,” said Earl Burke, JPS Chief Finance and Operations Officer. “These actions are unacceptable, and we are pursuing all necessary steps to correct the issue and prevent recurrence.”
The district will seek the recuperation of funds and hold the responsible individual(s) accountable to the fullest extent of the law.
