Jackson Public Schools (JPS) announces that Dr. Michael Cormack, Jr., Deputy Superintendent, will depart the district to assume the role of CEO–Superintendent of KIPP Atlanta Public Schools, effective March 16, 2026.

Dr. Cormack was Superintendent Greene’s first hire in 2019 and has served JPS with distinction for the past six and a half years, helping lead the district through one of the most significant periods of sustained academic and organizational improvement in its history.

During his tenure with JPS, Dr. Cormack led all academic functions, helping guide substantial academic achievement gains and spearheading several innovative initiatives aligned to the JPS Strategic Plan, The Power of People & Possibilities. Guided by his academic leadership, JPS improved its accountability rating from an “F” to a “C,” greatly increased graduation rates, and secured a competitive $25.6M grant to expand universal prekindergarten access. He has been widely recognized for elevating instructional coherence, building the capacity of academic and school leadership teams, and nurturing strong partnerships with community organizations, local universities, and statewide education partners.

“Dr. Cormack’s impact on Jackson Public Schools has been profound,” said Superintendent Greene. “His relentless focus on instructional excellence, organizational effectiveness, and leadership development has strengthened our schools and improved outcomes for our scholars. We are grateful for his service to JPS, and proud to see him elevate and expand his impact even farther."
