Jana Williams, Ed.S., will serve as the College and Career Readiness Manager for the Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) with Jackson Public Schools, where she will lead strategic initiatives designed to prepare scholars for postsecondary success. In this role, Mrs. Williams will oversee the implementation of a college and career readiness framework that supports middle school cohorts through early intervention, academic enrichment, and exposure to college and career pathways, providing support through their first year of college.

As part of the federally funded GEAR UP grant, Mrs. Williams will collaborate with district leaders and community partners to expand access to high-quality college readiness programming, increase college enrollment, and strengthen family and community engagement. She will lead major initiatives such as postsecondary advising systems for grades 7–12, college exposure opportunities, work-based learning experiences, and family engagement programs that equip scholars and their families with the knowledge and tools needed for long-term success.

Before this role, Mrs. Williams served as the College and Career Readiness Manager for the High School Network, where she cultivated a districtwide college-going culture and implemented innovative programs, including the E³Ready Campaign, districtwide college fairs, national testing initiatives (ACT, WorkKeys, ASVAB), dual credit partnerships, and college tours across Mississippi. She has extensive experience managing CCR teachers, career coaches, and graduation coaches, ensuring alignment in student support and postsecondary readiness efforts.  During her time in the High School Network, the district experienced increased graduation rates due to her collaborative work.

Mrs. Williams began her career in education as a graduation coach and teacher at Murrah High School, where she was recognized as the 2017 Mustang of the Year. Earlier in her career, she served in auditing and compliance roles with the Mississippi Department of Human Services and the Office of the State Auditor, bringing a strong background in data analysis and accountability to her work in education. 

A proud Jacksonian, Mrs. Williams earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Tougaloo College, multiple graduate degrees from Jackson State University, and an Education Specialist in Educational Leadership from the University of Mississippi. She holds certifications in administration, teaching, college and career readiness, and is a fellow of the National College Attainment Network.

Mrs. Williams will remain deeply committed to advancing equity, excellence, and meaningful postsecondary opportunities for all scholars. Embracing a growth mindset in her new role, she will continue to challenge scholars to maintain high standards of academic achievement.  Through her leadership, she will continue to champion innovative strategies that strengthen college-going cultures and ensure students graduate prepared to thrive in college, career, and life.
