At the May 5 Jackson Public Schools Board meeting, the Mississippi Department of Education presented JPS with official banners recognizing two Schools of Innovation.
JPS created the JPS–Tougaloo Early College High School (JTECHS) and the Jackson Middle College Programs to give scholars strong head starts beyond high school. Through these programs, scholars have the opportunity to earn both a high school diploma and an associate degree from Tougaloo College or Jackson State University.

(L to R): Dr. Tony Latiker, Dean, Jackson State University College of Education and Human Development; Dr. Shelita McCadney, Principal, Jackson Middle College - JPS; Chinelo Graves, Director of Innovation, Mississippi Department of Education; Dr. Laketia Marshall-Thomas, JPS Assistant Superintendent of High Schools; Ashley Molden, Principal, JPS-Tougaloo Early College High School; Dr. Josiah Sampson III, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, Tougaloo College; and Dr. Errick L. Greene, Superintendent, Jackson Public Schools
These initiatives reflect the district’s continued focus on preparing scholars with the skills, knowledge, and mindset needed for success in college and career pathways.
Each time JPS renews its application with the state, the district is honored with these official banners from MDE, a recognition of the ongoing work happening across Jackson schools.
Chinelo Graves with the Mississippi Department of Education noted, “The things that have been put in place in Jackson, even many years ago, others are aspiring to accomplish.”
Congratulations to our principals and teams supporting each school and keep up the great work!
