On Monday, May 12, 2025, the library of Robert M. Callaway High School was filled with pride and celebration as the newest members of Mu Alpha Theta, the national mathematics honor society, were formally inducted. The ceremony was a testament to the academic excellence and determination of JPS scholars, complete with musical performances, powerful guest speakers, and heartfelt cheers from proud families and friends.
The program featured a warm welcome by MAT President La’Ziyah Walker and Vice President Mya Nelson, the National Anthem performed by Kaitlyn Tate, and a stirring gospel performance by Kaitlyn and Keenan Tate. Guest speakers Dr. Erin Shirley-Orey and Dr. Byron D’Andra Orey inspired scholars with messages of perseverance, vision, and leadership through education, especially Dr. Byron D'Andra Orey, a Callaway High School alumnus, now professor at Jackson State University.
Awards were presented to recognize outstanding contributions in mathematics and leadership, including the Mathematics Excellence Award, Visionary Award, and Citizenship Award. But the highlight of the day was the official induction of new Mu Alpha Theta members, scholars who have demonstrated high achievement in mathematics and a commitment to academic success.
🏅Congratulations to Our 2025 New Mu Alpha Theta Inductees!
