Mrs. Rhoda B. Yoder

Principal of Casey Elementary is my favorite job ever! Each of the many roles I filled as an educator for 37 years gave me a piece of what I needed to fill this role. I love Casey—its wonderful, engaging scholars; its caring, supportive parents; its incredibly talented faculty and staff.

I grew up in the panhandle of Florida in a farm family with six brothers and a sister, became an English teacher at Lanier High School after graduating from Eastern Mennonite College, and got master's degrees from Mississippi College and Jackson State University. I am married to a wonderful social worker, Warren Yoder, and we have three grown sons and a daughter-in-law.

While teaching for 20 years, I was inducted into the Mississippi Hall of Master Teachers and became a National Board Certified Teacher. I love life as an educator because I have never been bored, I am always learning more, and I get to work with the very best people.

Principal's Message

  • Welcome to the Casey Elementary School website. Casey is a High Performing School." We are proud of our many awards and designations. The Mississippi Arts Commission named Casey a "Model Whole School." We are one of only four in the entire state! Our school has been recognized as a "Blue Ribbon School" for exhibiting a quality education integrating the arts throughout our curriculum. Casey received the "Governor's Award for Excellence in the Arts" from the Mississippi Arts Commission and the "School of Excellence Award" from the Mississippi Alliance for Arts Education. Casey was also designated a Finalist for the National School Change Award in 2006 and 2007.

Casey has achieved superior status as a result of community support, parental involvement, and highly qualified teachers and staff members. Our staff members have received numerous accolades to include: National Board Certification, Master Teacher Hall of Fame, Metro Area Chamber of Commerce Teacher of the Year, and JPS Teacher of the Year. Our adopters and Partners in Education, Cook, Douglass, Farr, & Lemons/Ltd, BankPlus, and Covenant Presbyterian Church are avid supporters of our school and the arts. Our adopters have a strong presence in our school.

Transfers are reviewed on an annual basis and renewed for scholars meeting the school standards for attendance, behavior, and academic performance. Our application process for new scholars begins in November for the following school year.  To qualify for admission, scholars need to be on or above grade level and be willing to maintain school standards. Qualified scholars are admitted based on space availability.

We hope that you enjoy our website and ask that you contact us should you have any further questions. Enjoy!
