Welcome to Power APAC and to the 2018-2019 school year! It is my hope that your school year is filled with exciting and enriching experiences and that you are successful in meeting your educational goals. At Power APAC, we intend to provide the support needed in order for all students to reach their full potential. We encourage our parents to become part of the family atmosphere that we seek to create at Power APAC and we encourage our students to take full advantage of the enriched academic program and the exceptional arts curriculum we offer. An Illinois native, Mr. Shumaker moved to the Mississippi Delta in 2008 with Teach for America. Mr. Shumaker began his career in education as a social studies teacher at Broad Street High School in Shelby, Mississippi. He was awarded the Broad Street and North Bolivar School District Teacher of the Year Award in 2009. In 2012, he began his career in school administration serving in both the North Bolivar School District and the Cleveland School District. He is most proud of moving Parks Elementary School from a D-rated to a B-rated school. Additionally, Mr. Shumaker was awarded the Cleveland School District Administrator of the Year in 2016-2017. He joined #TeamJPS in 2018 to help lead Power APAC to continued success. As of today, the Olympians remain a top-15 school in the state.
Mr. Shumaker has been a cohort member of both the Mississippi Principal Impact Fellowship and Stennis Institute's Education Policy Fellowship. through Mississippi State University. He is also active in community being part of many civic clubs and organizations.
