  • Raines Elementary is in the Jackson Public School District. It serves students in grades pre-K-5.

    The students of Raines Elementary School are soaring into the 21st century and succeeding in a learning environment that expects excellence in achievement and accepts nothing less than one’s personal best. Our Namesake

    Mary Ida Raines (1861-1935) was a native of Rankin County who attended Brandon Female College, Peabody, and Tulane University. She taught in the Engine House in Jackson and was later transferred to a first grade assignment at Central. She taught in the Hinds County School System from 1902 to 1908 and at George School from 1908 until 1933.
