Military Star School Overview

  •  OBJECTIVE

    The Military Star School program will be established at Forest Hill High School in the 2025-2026 school year as a part of a districtwide initiative.  The program's goal is to create an environment that is supportive during the transition of a military dependent into the Jackson Public School District.  The Military Star School program is designed to help schools respond to the educational and social-emotional challenges military-connected children face during their transition to a new school and keep them on track to be college, workforce, and life-ready.

    VISION  

     The vision is to provide a smooth transition into a new school environment while fostering educational excellence.

    PURPOSE

    The Military Star School program is designed to support military-connected children while recognizing the value of military service and civic responsibility. It aims to meet the educational and social-emotional needs of military-connected children and keep them on track for college, the workforce, and life.

    ANNUAL ACTIVITIES

    Military Night on the Hill, is held in conjunction with a football game where service recruiters will provide anyone interested in the military or a specific branch of the service a presentation.  This annual event is followed up with an onsite ASVAB examination within a defined period of time.  Additional details about this event can be gotten from the JROTC department, the school Athletic department chair, the school administrative team or a local recruiting station.

    Veterans Day Honoree celebration, all present and past veterans will be honored with a small tribute for their service to this country.  All attendees will learn a little about all of the branches of the military, a little about the history of veterans' day and be inspired to continue to serve others with selfless dedication to a greater cause.

UPCOMING EVENTS

  • Purple Week is a series of events designed to highlight all branches of service, April 2025.  During this week all branches of the military service will be honored, an educational presentation of their goals and opportunities will be introduced to the student body and a 'Purple" day of activities will end this week.
