Ms. Kimberly Hulitt-Griggs

Kimberly Hulitt-Griggs is principal of Shirley Elementary School. She previously served as the principal of Sykes Elementary School, bringing more than 20 years of experience as an educator in JPS to this new assignment. Her educational experience began at Oak Forest Elementary in 2002 as a kindergarten and second grade instructional assistant. Ms. Griggs has served as a fourth grade ELA teacher, a fifth grade ELA teacher, K-5 instructional interventionist, and assistant principal of Clausell Elementary, John Hopkins Elementary, Sykes Elementary, and interim principal at McLeod Elementary of JPS.

Ms. Griggs is a native of Jackson, Mississippi, but completed her high school studies at Richland Attendance Center in Richland, Mississippi. She attended Thee Jackson State University and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in industrial technology with an emphasis on computer technology, earned a Masters’ Degree in Masters of Art in Teaching, and earned her Specialist Degree in Educational Administration K-12 in December 2023.  She has also been trained in leadership through the Mississippi Alternate Path of Quality School Leadership (MAPQSL).

Kim Griggs has a passion for teaching and learning. She believes that children are entitled to coherent systems of curriculum, instruction, and assessment that promote the mission, vision, and core values of the Jackson Public School District.  Ms. Griggs embodies high expectations for student learning, aligned with academic standards, and culturally responsive.  “We walk in excellence, building positive relationships, focused on a growth-mindset, and giving every child our best because they deserve it all and nothing less!”

Mrs. Catreda Morgan

Catreda Morgan is the assistant principal of Shirley Elementary School. She brings 14 years of educational experience to this new role, and all as a member of team JPS. Her educational experience began at Watkins Elementary in 2009 as a kindergarten teacher. Over the years, Ms. Morgan has worked as a kindergarten teacher for nine years, third grade teacher for one year and an interventionist for four years. For two summers, Ms. Morgan has proudly served as an A3 Summer Camp coordinator. Ms. Morgan has served the scholars of JPS at Watkins Elementary, Woodville Heights Elementary, and Timberlawn Elementary.  

Ms. Morgan is a native of Jackson, Mississippi, and completed her high school studies at Murrah High School in Jackson, MS. She attended Thee Jackson State University and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education K-4 in 2008. In 2012, she earned a Master of Science Degree also in Elementary Education K-4. Her Specialist’s Degree in Educational Administration K-12 was earned in December 2019.   

Catreda Morgan is the daughter of a retired educator. Education has always been a top priority throughout her childhood and now as an administrator. Her belief is that all children can learn, and they deserve access to a quality education. They deserve new experiences and a safe place to grow and explore by the use of strategic lesson designs and instructors that are passionate and caring. “Leadership is about making others better as a result of your presence and making sure that impact lasts in your absence.”

Mrs. Varranda Love

 Varranda Henderson Love is the Assistant Principal at Shirley Elementary School. She brings 17 years of educational experience. During this time, Mrs. Love has contributed to the success of students and teachers by supporting and engaging in instructional strategies that enhance teaching and learning. Her career began at Hardy Middle School as an Art teacher. Later, she began working in the Hinds County School District for four years as a teacher and Coach.  A few years later, Mrs. Love was employed with the Vicksburg-Warren School District where she served as the Academy Coach and 9th Grade Administrator.  Trusting the process, Mrs. Love returned to JPS to gain experience in preparation for an Administrative role on the Elementary level and secured a position at Peeples Middle School as a teacher while working as the Site Coordinator at Key Elementary After School Program and the 21st Century Afterschool Program.
