Mrs. LeKeisha Griffith Sutton
LeKeisha Griffith Sutton is an educator that believes in the success and abilities of all students. She is compassionate, motivated, and determined to ensure that all students have the quality education they need and deserve. Mrs. Sutton graduated from John W. Provine High School in 1998 with honors. Her initial aspiration was to become a pediatric nurse. She received an Associate in Arts in Pre-Nursing degree from Hinds Community College in 2000. After much consideration and experience working as an Instructional Assistant at Woodville Heights Elementary in the Jackson Public School District, she decided that educating students was her true calling. Mrs. Sutton began the pursuit of her aspiration of becoming an educator at Jackson State University. She graduated from Jackson State University with honors in 2003 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education. Mrs. Sutton decided to explore Instructional Leadership in 2007. She received a Master of Education Degree in 2008 later followed by an Education Specialist Degree in 2009, both in Educational Leadership from Mississippi College.
Mrs. Sutton began her career as an Instructional Assistant in 2000. Shortly thereafter, she became a certified teacher where she taught first and third grade students from 2003 to 2006. As a first year teacher, Mrs. Sutton received the Mississippi Power Teacher Grant. This grant highlighted Mrs. Sutton’s achievements as a first year teacher, which was demonstrated by the academic success of her students. In 2006, Mrs. Sutton became an Assessment Specialist in the Jackson Public School District. In this capacity she developed 4th and 5th grade district assessments that mirrored the state standards. In 2009, she became an elementary school assistant principal at Gary Road Elementary in the Hinds County School District. During this time, she assisted with increasing student achievement that resulted in 75% of all students reading on grade level at the end of the 2014-2015 school year. In 2015, Mrs. Sutton began a new chapter of her professional career as a building level administrator. Currently, Mrs. Sutton is the principal of Lake Elementary School District where she energetically serves the students, parents, staff, and community. She is excited about the experience because Lake Elementary is the school that laid the foundation for her success.
