Mr. Bruce Sloan
Bruce Sloan will serve as principal of Cardozo Middle School for the 2024-2025 school year. He brings over 10 years of educational experience to his new role. Mr. Sloan's career began in Jackson Public Schools at Isable Elementary School where he was an academic tutor prior to graduating from Jackson State University and after he served as a 5th grade teacher, teaching all subjects. His commitment to student academic performance contributed to Isable's B rating for the 2015-2016 and 2016-2017 school years.
Later, Mr. Sloan relocated to the Gulf Coast and began working at Central Elementary School teaching 5th grade ELA, again, contributing to successful student performance practices and helping the school achieve a B rating. He also worked for Harrison County School District teaching English language arts for grades 6th-8th. His 7th grade scholars scored No. 1 in ELA in the school and No. 7 in the state. Mr. Sloan returned to Jackson to serve as assistant principal for Republic Charter Schools for a short time before joining JPS as an assistant principal at Powell Middle School and Kirksey Middle School.
Mr. Sloan earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education with concentrations in reading and English from Jackson State University. He earned his Master of Education degree in Educational Leadership from Concordia University, Nebraska and an Educational Specialist degree in Curriculum and Instruction Administration from Nova Southeastern University. He is currently pursing his doctorate in Transformational Leadership and plans to graduate soon.
Mr. Sloan is honored to be named principal of Cardozo Middle School, and he embraces Cardozo's new tagline of R.O.A.R. - Raising the Standard. Operating in Excellence. Achieving Greatness. Reigning Supreme. He is excited about catering to the scholars, families, communities, and staff.
