Mr. Ranald Johnson, Principal
Ranald S. Johnson is the principal of Powell Middle School. Mr. Johnson joined JPS in August of 2020. He most recently worked as Powell Middle School's and Brinkley Middle School's assistant principal. Additionally, he has held the positions of Lanier Feeder Lead for the after-school program and A3 Coordinator for the summer enrichment program and the extended school year program. He also served as a delegate on the superintendent's advisory board for the years 2022–2023.
In Shelby, Mississippi, which is in the heart of the Mississippi Delta, Mr. Johnson was born and raised. He went to school in the North Bolivar School District for elementary, middle, and high school. Additionally, he finished his undergraduate studies at Alcorn State University in Lorman, MS. Mr. Johnson also earned a Master's degree and an Education Specialist degree from William Carey University in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
He has experience working in the field of education and has held roles at the Yazoo City Municipal School District and the Biloxi Public School District, respectively, as an English Language Arts teacher, a transition coach, and a summer school coordinator. Additionally, he has prior administration experience working in the East Tallahatchie School District, where he served as Charleston Middle School's principal and Charleston High School's assistant principal.
An energetic administrator, Mr. Johnson, believes that treating others with respect while simultaneously serving them is the secret to becoming a successful leader. He lives by the principle of "Making a Positive Impact on the Lives of Children."
