Overview
-
Chastain Middle School is one of 12 middle schools in the Jackson Public School District. The school serves students in grades 6-8.
Mission
Chastain Middle School, an innovative, urban middle school committed to excellence, will provide every student a quality education in partnership with parents and the community.
Vision
Our vision is to become a world-class learning institution that provides our high schools with productive, caring scholars who are fully prepared to succeed in our global society.
School History
Established in 1959, the school is named for James Garvin Chastain, Jr., the son of Baptist missionaries. Chastain lived in Mexico during his boyhood. He went to school in Blue Mountain, MS, and later graduated from Mississippi College. He became JPS Superintendent in 1933. During his administration, the Reserve Officer Training Corps (known as JROTC) was established at Central High School.
Adopters
We are fortunate to have a very involved community. School adopters are Christ United Methodist Church, Eaton Aerospace, and Fresh Start Christian Church. We are also proud to have a strong Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) at Chastain.
