Risk Management

The Jackson Public School District is committed to providing safe, risk-free environments for our students to learn and for employees to work. Therefore, we promote and encourage the collaborative efforts of everyone to bring safety to the forefront. It helps us all achieve as one District, one team, and as one dream.
The most valuable resource any organization has is its human resources, and leadership recognizes this fact. To safeguard our employees from any potential injury or harm, we promote safety awareness and provide workplace safety training for all employees. We value our employees and their quality of life, so we make safety our top priority each and every day.
Safety is an integral part of the educational process, and all students deserve a safe place to learn. Healthy learning environments impact student achievement, and it is our goal to help every leader create learning environments that are designed with learning in mind.
Leadership at JPS is committed to the safety of our students, employees, and anyone who may visit our facilities. However, safety is everyone’s responsibility, so let’s embrace safety together and create environments that enhance learning for our students, are safe places to work, as well as help us build partnerships with the community. Together we all can achieve!

Reporting
Employees should report all on-the-job injuries to their immediate supervisor or the supervisor’s designee, within 24 hours to ensure their claim is processed in a timely manner.
Once an employee reports the injury, the supervisor or the supervisor’s designee (with the employee present or on the phone) should call Medcor at 1-800-775-5866.
A Registered Nurse from Medcor will do a telemedicine evaluation and advise the employee to self medicate or report to a designated medical facility, with their reference number provided immediately after the call. Employees can choose their own physicians.
If the employee is advised to self medicate and that treatment doesn’t work, the employee can call Medcor back within 72 hours for further instructions. Typically, after the first call is complete there is no need to call Medcor anymore. For all questions or concerns, call Tawana Bumphis or your claims representative at Bitco.
If a supervisor or designee is not immediately available, the employee should still call Medcor and report the incident to their supervisor at the earliest date possible.
