Assets & Property
Assets and Property manages tangible personal property in accordance with District policies and procedures, Mississippi statutes, and State Auditor rules governing property accountability and control.
The department maintains accountability for capitalized and non-capitalized assets by identifying, tagging, and recording each asset’s location, responsible party, and condition to help minimize loss, theft, or damage
The department also supports accurate financial reporting for capital projects, debt service, and general long-term debt by recording, classifying, and summarizing financial transactions in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), state ordinances, and applicable legal requirements. This information is used to develop financial reports and the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR).
The Assets and Property staff include an Executive Director, a Compliance Manager, and three inventory clerks. The inventory clerks conduct inventories for the District’s 36 schools and other departments.
Assets and Property includes the Fixed Asset Warehouse, Central Warehouse, Maintenance Warehouse, and 16th Section Land Management.
Fixed Asset Warehouse
The Fixed Asset Warehouse includes a Logistics Support Manager, three warehouse delivery staff members, and a receiving clerk. The department is responsible for picking up and delivering District property and equipment.
Central Warehouse
The Central Warehouse includes four warehouse delivery staff members, two warehouse clerks, and two office employees. The department fulfills supply orders for schools and offices throughout the District.
Maintenance Warehouse
The Maintenance Warehouse includes a manager and a warehouse clerk. The department manages the storage, inventory, and distribution of maintenance supplies, materials, and equipment needed for school and department repairs.
16th Section Land Management

The Jackson Public Schools 16th Section Land Management Department is responsible for the stewardship, development, and administration of 16th Section trust lands owned by the district. These lands are held in trust to generate revenue that directly supports the educational mission of Jackson Public Schools and benefits its students.
16th Section Land Management manages and leases District-owned 16th Section trust lands to generate revenue that supports Jackson Public Schools. The department oversees leasing, compliance, land use planning, and revenue collection to ensure that all 16th Section properties are managed in a responsible, transparent, and fiscally sound manner. Through strategic partnerships and careful oversight, the department works to maximize long-term value while preserving land assets for future generations.
By aligning land management practices with district priorities, the 16th Section Land Management Department plays a vital role in enhancing educational funding, promoting community development, and upholding public trust.
