Honor Society Overview

Overview

The Honor Society program empowers and equips scholars with the knowledge and skills to be transformative leaders in their school, community, and beyond. In addition, it provides a necessary bridge between students and school leaders—helping you to engage and hear what students think, feel, and need.

National Elementary Honor Society

A brown stylized flame icon sits above a blue banner and gold text reading %22NATIONAL ELEMENTARY HONOR SOCIETY%22 against a plain white background.

The National Elementary Honor Society (NEHS) provides students in grades 4–6 a place to develop and apply their passion for service, while obtaining the skills to be confident young leaders for years to come.

NEHS membership is centered on recognizing students for their accomplishments while challenging and equipping them to develop further as leaders through service to their school and community.

Reflecting school leaders’ profound commitment to student leadership development, the National Principals Association founded NEHS in 2008. In addition to NEHS, the National Principals Association founded and manages the National Honor Society (est. in 1921), National Junior Honor Society (est. in 1928), and National Association of Student Councils (est. in 1931).

Contact your child’s school for additional information or visit the National Elementary Honor Society website.

National Junior Honor Society

The National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) elevates a school’s commitment to the values of scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship and helps middle-level students develop the knowledge and skills to become well-rounded student leaders in their school, community, and beyond.

NJHS chapters operate in all 50 states and schools around the world, engaging and serving more than one million students.

Reflecting school leaders’ profound commitment to student leadership development, the National Principals Association founded NJHS in 1929 with the purpose of creating enthusiasm for scholarship; stimulating a desire to render service; promoting leadership; encouraging responsible citizenship; and developing character in secondary school students.

In addition to NJHS, the National Principals Association founded and manages the National Honor Society (est. in 1921), National Association of Student Councils (est. in 1931), and National Elementary Honor Society (est. in 2008).

Contact your child’s school for additional information or visit the National Junior Honor Society website.

National Honor Society (NHS) membership has been the true mark of student achievement for over 100 years, but it goes far beyond a report card. By empowering, championing, and recognizing well-rounded students, NHS provides schools with a values-based framework to elevate a culture of scholarship, service, leadership, and character.

NHS chapters operate in all 50 states and many schools around the world, engaging and serving more than 1.4 million students.

Reflecting school leaders’ profound commitment to student leadership development, the the National Principals Association founded NHS in 1921 based on the four pillars of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. In addition to NHS, the National Principals Association founded and manages National Junior Honor Society (est. in 1928), National Association of Student Councils (est. in 1931), and National Elementary Honor Society (est. in 2008).

Contact your child’s school for additional information or visit the National Honor Society website.
